Hello everybody, and welcome to the Where's The Head On That Pint Fantasy League's website. To all our league members visiting for the first time, we hope you enjoy our latest venture. To those of you visiting from outside the league hoping to have a gander at the UK's premier fantasy league websiteFantasy League aside, of coursewelcome to you, too.
The Where's The Head On That Pint Fantasy League was formed in late 1993 by seven managers ("The Original Seven") in Bristol. Operating through Fantasy League Ltd. the league has gradually grown and prospered, and is, to date, one of the largest and most respected locally run leagues in the UK. From humble beginnings, the league has expanded to over forty clubs split into four divisions, with promotion, relegation, cup competitions, manager of the month awards, medals, prizes and the finest assortment of trophies outside of the Football Association.

"In a league of your own" - Mr. Pink, Fantasy League. |
The
name of this website is derived from the original newsletter of the league "The
Fogg-Horn", which first appeared in December 1993. Since that time
over 200 editions of The Fogg-Horn have rolled off the presses, ensuring
that our rare stable of managers have been kept informed and entertained with
all the developments in the Where's The Head On That Pint Fantasy League.
The name of the newsletter was inspired by Andy Fogg, our first ever champion,
who also happens to be a champion for all things northern, hailing as he does
from Hull. So vocal is Andy in his admiration for that part of the world, that
it can be likened at times to listening to a foghorn. Hence the name.
The league itself operates out of Bishopston, in Bristol, with local publican Paul Bird providing venues for league get-togethers. Auctions are held at The Annexe Inn, whilst meetings and Pool Nights are held at The Sportsman, Bristol's premier pool venue. League Dinners have also been held in the superb on-site restaurant, The Barn. Click on any of the links to visit The Sportsman website. As well as those managers based in Bristol we also have a large contingent of managers based in far-flung places. In the past we have had managers based in such diverse locations as Washington DC, Saudi Arabia, Angola, Australia and Burnley. Truly an international community!
The
opening of this website signals a new development for the league in many ways.
As most of the league is now on-line it made sense to put the newsletter to
bed, although it is anticipated that the 64-page The Fogg-Horn Fantasy
Football Yearbook will still appear every August. The website should
improve members' access to the league, as well as providing a useful information
source for everyone. No more waiting for your news to arrive in the post! As
well as all the current news and views, it is hoped to furnish everyone with
plenty of stats and a few pics to brighten up the place! Furthermore, it is
also hoped that the league's history will be fully documented within the site.
To this end the Chairman is currently revising and fully updating his magnum
opus, 838 And All That: A Personal History of the League, which first
appeared in the 1999-2000 Yearbook, together with a similarly updated A-Z
of Clubs, which also appeared in that edition. As well as all of the above,
the website should also reduce the cost, both financially and in man-hours,
that has previously been shouldered by the Chairman and editor. For those of
you who have been telling me for the last eight years that I should get a life,
the website may go some way to achieving that goal!
Finally, it would be an enormous omission on my part if I failed to recognise and pay tribute to the huge contribution made to this venture by my brother and fellow fantasy league manager, Steve Pearce. Without Steve's hard-work, all-round knowledge and determination, the on-line Fogg-Horn wouldn't have happened. When I was flagging and desperate to disappear down the pub, Steve kept the thing on-track with a constant stream of e-mails and phone-calls. We both hope you enjoy the fruit of our efforts, and you can be sure that we will be doing everything to ensure that the website and the league continue to excel and improve in the seasons ahead.
Regards
Martin Pearce, League Chairman and The Fogg-Horn Editor
